Blue
Tapp Scheffer
vocals, guitar, mandolin, flute, Irish whistle, percussion
Blue's amazing vocals range from the powerful reverberating spirit of Grace Slick, Ann Wilson and Janis Joplin to lilting angelic highs in the vein of Allison Kraus and Sarah McLachlan. Blue is a self-taught musician and has been writing and creating music for over 25 years.
Blue's style is decidedly Americana folk but her wide variety of musical influences include Laurie Anderson, Lila Downs, Holly McNarland, Tori Amos, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Heart, Susan Tedeschi, Portishead, Cranberries, Patricia Barber, Billie Holiday and Sam Phillips. A defining moment in her life was the first time she heard John Coltrane's "Ole". She could listen to nothing else for months...
Blue's music is a dynamic acoustic blend of Moody Blues, Jewel, Riverdance, Enya, Jethro Tull, and more. She integrates powerful vocals and compelling musical arrangements with unconventional instrument combinations, flute, Irish whistle, mandolin, guitars and percussion. Blue's show invites audiences along a delightful journey through time periods and musical genres as she plays uniquely arranged versions of your favorite tunes as well as some of her own beautiful songs. Blue is a poet and published writer and her introspective lyrics examine faith, love, God, life, nature and eternity.
Blue was formally a member of and founder of the band, Morning Vision Blue, which began as a full electric band in 2004. MVBlue gained a fair amount of local success as an original rock band and performed in most of the original music venues that existed in St. Louis between 2004 and 2006. After various band member rotations, MVBlue eventually became an acoustic duo with Blue and lead guitarist, Ron Hendricks. The new acoustic duo MVBlue achieved even greater local success performing around St. Louis and occasionally traveling to perform throughout Missouri and Illinois. Blue and Ron cut two CDs: "Mirror" a four song demo CD and "Charm" a full length CD including both full band electric and two piece acoustic originals.
Today Blue performs solo or occasionally is accompanied by other musicians at coffeehouses, restaurants and events in and around St. Louis. She is also available to perform as an opener for larger or traveling bands, at private events, parties and weddings.
